《가장 보통의 날들》은 차동엽 작가가 오랜 시간 바라보고 기록해 온 일상의 풍경을 담은 전시이다. 이 전시에 소개되는 작품들은 버스와 기차, 도시의 거리와 동네 골목, 장을 보러 가는 길과 귀가하는 순간처럼 우리가 매일 반복적으로 마주하는 장면들에서 출발한다.
차동엽의 작업은 특정한 사건이나 극적인 서사를 중심에 두지 않는다. 대신 작가는 이동과 정지, 오고 감이 반복되는 일상의 리듬 속에서 도시의 표정과 사람들의 시간을 포착한다. 작품 속에 등장하는 풍경들은 특별한 장소가 아니며, 인물들 또한 눈에 띄는 행동을 하지 않는다. 그러나 이러한 보통의 장면들은 작가의 시선을 통해 하나의 장면으로 고정되며, 우리가 쉽게 지나쳐 온 일상의 순간들을 다시 바라보게 한다.
마커와 아크릴 물감으로 표현된 화면은 선명한 색채와 단순한 형태를 바탕으로 구성되어 있으며, 이는 복잡한 도시 풍경 속에서도 명확한 인상을 남긴다. 작가는 이러한 회화적 언어를 통해 일상이 지닌 구조와 흐름을 담담하게 드러낸다.
이 전시는 우리가 무심히 흘려보냈던 수많은 보통의 날들에 주목한다. 특별하지 않기에 기억되지 않았던 시간들, 그러나 삶을 이루는 대부분의 순간들이 바로 그 날들이었음을 조용히 환기한다. 《가장 보통의 날들》은 일상의 풍경을 통해 오늘의 삶을 돌아보고, 평범한 하루가 지닌 의미를 다시 생각해보는 계기를 제시하고자 한다.

The Most Ordinary Days is an exhibition that captures scenes of everyday life that artist Cha Dongyub has long observed and recorded. The works presented in this exhibition begin with moments we repeatedly encounter in daily life—buses and trains, city streets and neighborhood alleys, the walk to the market, or the moment of returning home.
Cha Dongyub’s work does not center on specific events or dramatic narratives. Instead, the artist captures the expressions of the city and the passage of people’s time within the rhythms of everyday life, where movement and stillness, arrivals and departures continuously repeat. The landscapes that appear in the works are not extraordinary places, and the figures within them do not perform remarkable actions. Yet through the artist’s gaze, these ordinary scenes are fixed into singular moments, inviting us to look again at the everyday instances we so easily pass by.
Rendered with marker and acrylic paint, the compositions are built upon vivid colors and simplified forms, leaving a clear and striking impression even within complex urban landscapes. Through this painterly language, the artist calmly reveals the structure and flow inherent in everyday life.
This exhibition draws attention to the many ordinary days we have carelessly let pass. They are moments that may not have been remembered because they seemed unremarkable, yet they constitute most of our lives.
