〈벗이미술제〉는 2016년부터 벗이미술관이 국내 장애예술인의 전시 활동을 지원해 온 꾸준한 시간의 기록입니다. 벗이미술관은 제도권 밖에서 발현되는 고유한 창작 세계를 지속적으로 조명하며, 작가들의 작업이 전시 공간을 통해 관람객과 조우할 수 있는 기반을 형성해 왔습니다. 2025년 제9회를 맞은 본 시각예술 공모전은 이러한 흐름 속에서 두드러진 성취를 보여준 작가들의 작품을 선정하였습니다. 이번 수상작 전시는 선정된 다섯 명의 작가가 저마다의 삶에서 길어 올린 경험과 각기 다른 표현 언어로 구축해 온 다채로운 작업 세계를 소개합니다.

The VERSI Art Festival is a record of art museum VERSI’s sustained commitment, since 2016, to supporting the exhibition activities of artists with disabilities in South Korea. By continuously shedding light on distinctive creative worlds that emerge outside institutional frameworks, art museum VERSI has worked to establish a foundation where artists’ practices can encounter audiences through exhibition spaces. Marking its 9th edition in 2025, this open call for visual art selected works by artists whose practices demonstrate particularly notable achievements within this ongoing trajectory. The present exhibition introduces the diverse bodies of work created by five chosen artists, each shaped by experiences drawn from their own lives and articulated through distinct visual languages.
Park Junsu presents narrative compositions by dividing remembered landscapes and scenes into cubic structures, weaving together elements that intersect orthogonally across the picture plane. The recurring cube motif in his paintings functions both as a device that reveals layers of time and as a geometric framework through which fragments of lived experience and memory are projected. In Park’s work, these segmented spaces operate simultaneously as isolated pieces of footage drawn from memory and as clues that allow viewers to sense the totality of time. Through this approach, the artist architecturally organizes personal experience, reconstructs it as an image, and explores the potential for expanding new narratives within pictorial space.
Park Sungho takes his own room, one of the most familiar and intimate spaces, as the starting point of his practice, reorganizing everyday environments through experiments with distinctive patterns and textures. In his work, the room appears as a site where an internal order emerges from the movement of the gaze and the relationships formed among static objects in their respective positions. Patterns and surface sensations absorbed into objects, walls, and floors generate rhythm and structure within the picture plane, transforming a fixed space into a fluid field. Through this visual language, the artist proposes how personal living spaces can expand into new sensory realms.
Kwon Rabin constructs painterly spaces that fluidly traverse the boundary between reality and imagination, unfolding surreal worlds through fantastical colors and forms. Her canvases do not follow the logic of human rationality, instead presenting manifestations of multiple possibilities and worlds that dissolve boundaries. By translating imagination and inner emotion into diverse imagery, the artist draws viewers into immersive visual experiences. Her bold use of color heightens the sense of unreality, demonstrating how painting can operate as an autonomous world independent from everyday reality.
Jung Jangwoo expresses the individuality of various figures appearing in his work through vivid color contrasts and free, energetic brushwork infused with wit. The figures he depicts are reborn through exaggerated gestures and intense complementary color schemes, while his unrestrained, raw strokes sharpen their presence. This expressive approach generates a lively visual rhythm across the canvas, infusing everyday scenes with playful tension and vitality. Jung’s work foregrounds the energy of the painterly act itself, extending this dynamism into the exhibition space and engaging viewers on an immediate, physical level.
Lee Jaehyung visually articulates his longing for travel through stable compositions and a refined sense of form. As he imagines distant landscapes, he hopes one day to visit and translate them onto canvas; his personal interests and emotions toward different countries become the point of departure for each work. Landscape functions both as a lens through which the external world is viewed and as a vessel for inner feeling. Set against global landmarks, his paintings repeatedly feature figures with calm, bright expressions, filling the picture plane with small moments of happiness drawn from everyday human life. As viewers follow the figures within these scenes, they naturally dwell in the emotional atmosphere the artist creates, and his paintings expand into spaces that quietly share feelings of joy and affirmation.
This exhibition begins at the intersection between art museum VERSI’s long-standing support of Art Brut artists’ creative practices and the traces of continuous work accumulated by the artists themselves. Since 2016, the museum has developed an exhibition framework that has grown alongside individual artistic practices, serving as a foundation that enables sustained creation. Within this layered accumulation of time, the present exhibition captures moments in which pictorial languages born from each artist’s life and experience are once again called into being through the space of the exhibition.
The diverse temporalities embedded in these works intersect within the gallery, forming a multilayered pictorial landscape. The division of the picture plane and reconfiguration of space, the possibilities of the surreal, the energy of gesture, and emotionally charged landscapes each establish independent axes while remaining organically intertwined throughout the exhibition. By following the textures of time held within each work, viewers are invited to encounter the many possibilities these artists have accumulated over long periods of sustained practice.
