김경두는 샤프와 펜을 이용해 로봇 군상으로 이루어진 그의 특별한 세계를 만든다. 작가는 전봇대의 전선줄과 땅을 로봇에 빗대어, 전선줄을 '로봇의 뼈대', 땅을 '로봇의 살'이라고 말한다. 그래서 그의 작업은 마치 하나의 건축 양식처럼 보인다. 거대한 로봇 군상이 담긴 그의 드로잉에는 개체 하나하나에 계급이 부여되고, 마치 애니메이션

의 서막을 알리듯 드로잉 시리즈에는 명확한 순서가 존재한다.

작가의 초기 작업은 샤프 드로잉으로 시작된다. 0.3밀리의 얇은 샤프로 세밀하고 밀도 높은 로봇 형상을 완성하는데, 한 장의 종이에 수백, 수천 개의 로봇이 담긴 그의 드로잉은 흉내 낼 수 없을 정도로 매우 섬세하다. 초기 작품에는 얼굴 형태가 있는 로봇이 주로 등장하며, 후반부 작업에는 얼굴 형태가 없는 로봇들이 주로 그려진다. 십여 년간 샤프 작업을 고집해 온 작가는 이년 전부터 펜의 매력에 매료되어 이제는 펜을 주된 재료로 사용하고 있다. 그의 무수히 많은 그림을 보면, 자신이 구축한 세계에 대한 작가의 애착과 자부심이 고스란히 드러난다. 샤프 작업에서는 세밀하고 정교한 묘사가 돋보이며, 펜 작업에서는 보다 강렬하고 직관적인 표현이 가능하다. 이러한 변화를 통해 작가는 자신이 바라보는 세상에 대한 시각을 더욱 풍부하고 다채롭게 전달하고자 한다.

Kyung Du Kim creates his own visually unique world consisting of robot figures by using mechanical pencils and pens. Kim metaphorically describes power lines as the bones of robots and the ground as the flesh, presenting a mechanical and architectural world. His drawings, filled with giant robot figures, can make viewers hallucinate medieval cathedral floor plans. In addition, the artist constructs sequential compositions reminiscent of an animated prologue, assigning each figure a distinct hierarchical role.

Kyung Du Kim initiated his early creations only with pencils. Using 0.3mm thin pencils, he has depicted intricate and dense robot shapes. His sophisticated drawings, containing a great deal of robots on a single sheet, are incredibly detailed and difficult to replicate. Kim’s early works feature robots with facial forms and simultaneously showcases precise depictions to some degree.

After a decade of pencil work, the artist became captivated by the charm of pens, and then he employed pens as his primary material. His numerous drawings reveal his pride and attachment to the world he has built. The artist’s pen work without facial forms, opposite to his early works, allows the artist himself more intense and ample expressions. Along with the material shift, he conveys his intriguing point of view of the world more diversely.
